Description: Vester is a lean boy of about 5'9-5'10, with probably a couple of inches yet to grow. Although small in build, he is extremely fit, carrying solid muscle. Dark brown hair is worn cut short in a practical style...and still tends to look as if it hasn't seen a comb in several weeks. Eyes are also dark. Right now, his skin is very pale, although this, most likely, will change with time spent in the south. Most of the time, he prefers plain, dark colors, and considers ornamentation to be something for women. He has a slight scar on his right lower arm that looks like it was caused by a scald.

Personality: Vester is a young man of the Weyr in many ways. Holders, he tends to assume to be prudes unless they prove otherwise...or spend long enough in the Weyr to be 'educated' (or, rather, corrupted). He has a firm concept of the superiority of dragonriders. And his father raised him in the *old* traditions of the Weyr.

As a result, Vester tends to judge by old-fashioned weyr traditions. Bronzes are leaders, browns seconds, greens and blues, while not cannon fodder, are the straight out fighters. He is sexist...in a gallant, gentlemanly kind of way, he tends to put girls and women on pedestals and believe they should be kept safe and protected. Female dragonriders, he tends not to entirely trust, feeling that women who ride against Thread are putting themselves at unnecessary risk. He also tends to automatically assume that male greenriders...and female blue and brownriders...absolutely must be gay.

Vester is also...extremely ambitious. Nothing but a bronze is good enough for him, and should he Impress anything less, he might well be angry about it, even at his own dragon. He is the kind of kid who has visions of himself leading a wing...even the Weyr some day...and could really use a bit of a disappointment to knock some of it out of him. Getting his ambition could well make him impossible...until he realizes just how much *responsibility* it is. Right now, he is not the most mature person out there, and has much to learn in many ways.

He does not make friends easily or give friendship lightly. But when he does, he is very, very loyal...even to the point of getting in trouble to help a friend get out of it.

History:

Vester is the son of a Telgar brownrider, G'ter, and of a woman who works there in the lower caverns, herself the daughter of a rider. He is weyrbred on both sides for many generations, perhaps all the way back to the first pass for all anyone would know. His mother raised him herself as much as she could, a quiet, timid woman who tended to let others dominate her. In contrast, his father was a man who wished he had Impressed bronze, and now transferred that ambition on to his son.

Vester also had a half sister, Viria, two years younger (and currently a candidate at Telgar). The two do not really get on...Viria having ambition to Impress *green*, and Vester hiding his worry over his kid sister fighting Thread behind a veil of pretending contempt for her life choice. They were, however, much closer when they were younger, although he always protected her. His life, though, was much that of any weyrbred boy, with it always being assumed that he would stand as a Candidate, hopefully Impress sooner or later. The second he turned twelve he became a Candidate and stood at three Hatchings over the next two years, missing a fourth because he was horribly sick with a stomach virus, something he was ticked about for a long time. The fact that he failed to Impress, he put down to the fact that he was, of course, destined for bronze.

However, it could just as easily have been due to the overcrowding at Telgar, with some of those Hatchings having four or five times as many candidates as eggs. As a partial solution, Telgar's leadership have elected to transfer a number of candidates to MountainSong, which is still in need of people. Vester is among them...his sister, however, has remained at Telgar, a separation likely to be good for both of them.
