Description: 5' 9'', and a solidly built, nicely curved 165lbs. Fair skinned, though lightly tanned with a few freckles and dark, reddish-auburn hair that tumbles down to her waist when not up in a bun, which it is normally for kitchen work. For whatever reason -that she doesn't worry about- she hasn't yet begun to go gray. Her eyes however are a surprisingly bright gray, truly silver.

Personality: Sensible and down to earth. Jovial, yet stern when it comes to her kitchens, Serene tends to snap and swat at anyone caught misbehaving or thieving in her kitchens, even Master crafters and Lord Holders. She's inflexible about what rules she considers necessary for a good kitchen, but still rewards her workers for a job well done. Though those rewards do not extend to indulgence, as she doesn't want her help -or anyone else- getting too fat and lazy to do their work properly.

History: Born to the Weyr baker at Monaco Bay and one of his kitchen helpers, Serene was raised, literally, at her parents' apron strings. From the time she was four she was deemed safe enough with a knife for helping chop softer vegetables, and helping season foods and care for and encourage the spit-dogs. Always fascinated by her parents work, Serene never wanted to do anything else and was finally Apprenticed out to the Bakers at Fort Hold officially, even though by then she knew a good deal more than some of the other Apprentices. Thus it was no surprise when she made Journeywoman at a scant fifteen turns. She was sent to assist the Master who worked in the kitchens of Southern Boll Hold for a turn, and then on to the Smithcraft Hall, the Harper Hall, the Healer Hall -where she learned a good bit about nutrition and herbs- and then on to Bitra Hold, and finally Telgar Hold before she transferred back to the Harper Hall when given the choice. They had very much appreciated her work!

During all her turns, Serene only ever had two semi-serious relationshps. Her first, at only sixteen, turned out to be a young girl's fantasy -despite her good sense- when she fell for a Journeyman at the Smithcraft Hall who was several turns older -twenty-seven to her sixteen. He enjoyed her, courted her, became her first bed-mate, then left her for a Journeywoman of his own craft who was also older than himself, leaving his young *playmate* behind. Hurt, Serene had decided to avoid romantic entanglements. That vow lasted until her twenty-eighth turn, when she found herself honestly in love with a Sr. Journeyman Gemsmith who was also very much her senior -a full fifty-two turns, twenty-four turns her senior. They were discretely lovers for three turns before he caught a nasty case of fire-head on a trip to the Southern Continent and died. Serene never got to say goodbye.

For the past sixteen turns Serene has continued to focus on her work, honing her skills and talents and creating food that was delicious, filling, and yet often good for folks. She's had friends, and close confidants, but never taken another lover. Though she's mostly gotten over the pain now, and definitely managed to move on. She was informed that, having worked so long with the Harper Hall, she would be sent to supervise the kitchens for the New Southern adjunct to the Hall.

Serene and the Weyr's current Master Baker clashed briefly, having to share kitchens. She had very certain views on nutrition and food that he seemed to not always want to consider in his menu choices. However, they soon learned to work together and, after she moved up to her own kitchens in the Southern Hall, they continued to see each other. First just as friends, and then as bed-mates. It was to their mutual surprise when, at her age, Serene became pregnant! It was a long pregnancy, and while not overly difficult at the start, a large baby and late delivery, coupled with awful swelling, made the last months nearly unbearable. Finally, she gave birth to a big healthy boy they named Beren.
