Character Name: Saren

Description: Saren has absolutely pale blonde hair, mimicking her mother Steira by keeping it short. She is slowly filling out, but is still smaller and thinner than average, making her look perhaps a Turn younger than she actually is. Her brown eyes look extremely dark against her pale skin, but in reality are only medium-brown. She wears dark brown most of the time, but likes to wear red when she gets dressed up.

Personality: Of the triplets, Saren is the quietest. Her appearance makes her seem younger, but her attitude makes her seem much too wise for her age. She has known and seen some bad things in her time, and she has reacted the best way she could: by turning cold. At Fort, she has perhaps two or three female friends that she feels close to and lets her guard down around. Everyone else she shuts out, unless she considers them to be family. Her blood family falls under that category: her father, Z'ai, her siblings, Datsieli and Zaister, as do her adoptive parents and her adoptive sister, Aurala.

History: Saren is the product of one crazy mating flight. Her mother, Steira, slept with both S'nar and Z'ai on the same night. Steira never told her children about S'nar, however, so they all look upon Z'ai as their father.

Steira didn't see herself as much of a mother, so she fostered all three. Saren was taken in by a close friend of Steira's from Keroon who had relocated to Fort Hold. She gave birth to a daughter around the same time Saren was born, so the two were raised like blood sisters. Aurala's parents were Stonecrafters, so Aurala and Saren were both exposed to that at a young age. Both girls took to it and apprenticed when they were old enough.

Saren received regular visits from her parents, who brought her siblings as often as they could. She thought Datsieli was silly and pitied Zaister for being raised by her authoritarian grandparents, but loved them anyways. The three had a close bond that made Aurala jealous whenever they visited.

When Saren was fourteen Turns old, Steira died in Threadfall, and all of her children were devastated. Saren dealt with it the same way she usually did: by shutting herself off, from everyone except Aurala. She heard that Datsieli had been Searched, and transferred to Mountain Song Weyr. She was upset to hear that she missed her sister's Impression, but the letter she got from Datsieli a few months after shocked her to the core.

In it, Datsieli explained what she had overheard her grandparents discussing with S'nar: that Steira had been in love with S'nar before she came to the Weyr, and that there was a good possibility that S'nar was her blood father. Saren, like her sister, grew even more disgusted with their grandparents before. She told Aurala what had been going on, but swore the other girl to secrecy.

Eventually, Saren adjusted to the new information, and resolved to get on with her life...
