Physical Description: Kerenya's silky black hair is forever curled. She tries to keep it about shoulder-length, but it just grows so fast! Her striking, emerald-green eyes almost make up for the fact that she has a squashed, large nose, large lips, an extremely round face, and a large wine-red birthmark splotched across her left eye. In other words, Kerenya has a memorable face. She has a heavy build, larger than most boys she knows. Her shoulders are broad, her legs strong, which makes it easy to herd recalcitrant beasts. Kerenya prefers dark colors -- hides the stains better.
Personality: Kerenya is a relatively quiet girl, speaking only when she feels like she has something worth contributing to the conversation. She's one of those people who is a fantastic listener. She doesn't necessarily give good advice, but she's a sympathetic ear to talk to. Kerenya is very attentive, focusing on the task in front of her, to the point of excluding everything else around her. She has a huge, gaping weakness: her emotional dependence on her brother Rikeron. Rikeron is the focus of Kerenya's life and well-being. As long as her brother is around, everything is fine. Should anything happen to Rikeron, well -- it's unclear what would win out, Kerenya's sorrow or her determination to make Rikeron better. Because of her tight bond with Rikeron, she tends to not get too close to other people. However, when Rikeron is around, she's strong, steady, and capable.
History: Rolling Hills Cothold is a small cothold that is beholden to Telgar Hold. Kerenya's mother, also named Kerenya, showed up six months pregnant and begged for work as a drudge. The woman volunteered no information about her past, so they assumed she was hiding from something. Kerenya, the elder, died producing her daughter, whom the Healer decided to name after her mother. It might help her one day if she tried to find her real family.
Kerenya, the young girl, grew up as one of many children under the supervision of the creche mother Lelwy. However, when she was nine, her life got a whole lot better. Journeywoman Beastcrafter Rikita transferred with her son Rikeron, who was the same age as Kerenya. The two bonded instantly and became best friends. It got to the point where Rikita decided to formally adopt Kerenya because her son was so taken with the girl -- and because Rikita herself had come to love Kerenya like a daughter. The family grew again in that Turn because of Rikita's marriage to the Healer, Borsken. Rikeron and Kerenya were formally apprenticed as Beastcrafters when Rikita became pregnant.
Kerenya had a family. A family as real to her as if she shared their blood. She found out the circumstances of her birth, but decided not to pursue discovering more about her birth mother. Borsken proved to be a good father, and Kerenya found an unexpected delight in helping with her new siblings. She was still shy, still trusting only Rikeron, but she was happy. When they turned sixteen, both Rikeron and Kerenya received canine pups as gifts from their mother.
In an unexpected twist, Kerenya and Rikeron were Searched at the same time while on a visit to the South. Neither of them had ever considered being dragonriders. They agreed that they would make the decision together -- either they would both go or they would both stay. Oddly enough, it was Kerenya who became more enthusiastic about the prospect of becoming a dragonrider. Besides, they were on the old end of the Candidate spectrum, so if it didn't work out they could return home and continue as they had. So Kerenya and Rikeron came to Mountain Song Weyr.

Physical description: Skid is on the small side for a canine. She has reddish-brown fur that is thick and shiny and needs lots of brushing. Her eyes are a deep gold.
Personality: Skid is intelligent and more than a little psychotic. The herding instinct has carried over strongly in her. She loves to run around the herdbeasts, barking at them and trying to get them to do what she wants. She sometimes tries to herd her humans as well. She has an almost boundless supply of energy during the day and crashes hard at night.
