Apprentice Harper Junek

Player: Fox Treymayne

Character Name: Junek (Joo-neck)
Age: Somewhere between 15 and 17 turns
Rank: Unknown

Description: Approximately five feet six inches tall and looks like he has some height to gain yet. His skin is dark brown with the glaze of almost constant tanning. His hair is blackish brown and, when he was found, it came to his lower back. Regardless of the length of his hair, he is strangely well-groomed and carefully hygienic. His eyes are hazel, wise and watchful. He at least gives the appearance of being someone who is very observant. The soles of his feet are hard from apparently spending most of his turns without any cover for his feet at all. He is very muscular and, despite the bounty of the Southern Continent, he is lean almost to the point of malnourishment. When he was captured it was obvious he was in need of some basic health care for his condition as well as for an abscessed tooth and a broken finger on his left hand that had partially healed but was never set properly. Found wearing only a pair very tattered looking trousers, several sizes too large for him and tied at the waist and ankles by sinew, his usual attire is undetermined.

Personality: Junek is a creature more suited to the out-of-doors, but he is not a savage. He moves deftly but not altogether swiftly. He can speak and articulate well. He can read and write just fine, though no one has discovered these traits yet. Regardless of these ‘civilized’ traits, Junek is still very suspicious of the people who have found him and, to his eyes, taken him captive. Though he has decided to submit for the moment to whatever it is they want since it is obvious he is outnumbered and they are not going to let him get away. He has decided that, for the moment, he doesn’t care much for the dragonriders. Only thanks to Parly and her Juniors does he hold a grudging respect for those gold shoulder knots.

Gender/sexual preference: Male, most likely heterosexual but actual orientation as yet undetermined.

History:
His birth, heritage, and childhood are still a mystery. Parly found the young man eating the food off of her morning tray when she came back from bathing Elishath. He gave her such a start she flung a knife before she took a second to think, a moment of weakness she is irritated at herself for. The short knife landed thankfully in the outside of his upper right arm, causing a wound the healers deemed to be superficial. After he was treated, while being restrained, he was locked in a cell in the lower caverns while members of the Watch Crew were interrogated about his presence. It was suspected that he hid in a cart that had come in with a train of traders the night before, but beyond that there was little they knew about him. After speaking with the traders they admitted to seeing a long-haired figure sitting just outside the light of the fires playing a gitar, but didn’t think much of it. After searching the area a very aged gitar in a professional wher-hide case was found partially buried and hidden among bushes at the base of a stand of trees.
Determined to find out where the boy came from, Parly went to speak with him. The Senior Goldrider and her two Juniors brought him a heaping plate of hot food, a skin of cold drink, and a new set of clothes, of which he only accepted the trousers. While eating they discovered that his name was Junek, he did indeed know how to play the gitar (which was then brought to him), and that he had never been in a Weyr or seen a dragon before. Parly left him to his meal and locked the door behind her, only to have a sad gitar tune follow her up the stairs. She came back with the Weyr Harper who claimed to have never seen the boy, though he did play the gitar well from what they had heard echoing down the hallways. Frustrated, but at an impasse, Parly allowed the boy out of his cell but only allowed him to occupy a larger weyr that had been fitted with locks on the doors. He was able to bathe and food was brought to him as she tried to find out more about him. Healers tended to his tooth and his finger. He had to be restrained so they could set it, but once done he calmed down again and even offered a thank you to them as they left his prison-room.
Two days after catching him in her weyr, the goldrider still didn’t know anything more about him than she had after her first conversation with him. Her Juniors had also tried, only to be met with silence and the rare forced smile. One morning, the Weyr Harper found her and suggested something that she considered but not acted on. Mountain Song had a Harper Hall. If anyone would be able to find out what the boy was about, it would be the Harpers. Getting Junek out into the open Weyr posed a challenge though. He fought violently against going anywhere. Parly was sporting a black eye by the time she ordered him restrained and tied firmly to Elishath’s neck straps. A minute later they were circling down into Mountain Song with Elishath hinting at the boy’s possibility as a candidate. The goldrider didn’t entertain the idea, attributing her gold’s eagerness to her gravid state, and instead directed her to contact Monaryth as they came in for a landing.

Pets: Flit
Name: Sowl
Color: Brown
Description: Very flighty around people, probably because Junek keeps sending him away if there is anyone around. He is usually quite vocal and companionable to Juneke when they are alone though. Sowl is very small, probably from a green clutch. He is light brown with a blue-ish coat over all of his top surfaces and the barest hints of bronze in his wingsails.
