Journeywoman Papercrafter/Harper Eimauslyne

Player: T'star

Persona's Name: Eimauslyne
Age: 26 11.01.46
Current Rank:: Journeyman Harper/Papercrafter, Liason between the Harper Hall and Weyrharpers, and the Paper craft.

Physical Description: Average of height, standing only about 5'6" tall, she is not overly remarkable physically. Mousy brown hair that might be worked into attractiveness if it weren't simply pulled back and forgotten about. Her face is pleasant, nothing to draw the eye, but nothing to overly repulse it either. Dove grey eyes are set over cheekbones that are just a little too broad, and a nose that's a little too long turns itself up at the end spoiling the otherwise straight line. Her mouth is too small for her jaw line, though otherwise a pleasant bow shape. Her jaw line is broad, coming down to an incongruously pointed chin. Her figure is nothing spectacular. She is neither slim and slinky, nor is she a classic hourglass. She falls comfortably between the two. Her hands are much too large for her frame, being as wide (finger tip to finger tip) as many of the larger men's, mostly due to the long slender fingers. Her skin is lightly tanned, just enough to hide most of the smattering of freckles across her nose, though several remain obstinately visible. She is neither really dark nor pale, just somewhere in between like everything else about her appearance.

Personality: Eimauslyne is typically a quiet, girl. She is intelligent and bookish, but has little use for the more common social frivolities. She is very observant, by nature and training both. She habitually jots down notes to herself of conversations she's heard and sketches faces and scenes. It is less nosiness than it is habit. She is an archivist. It is her job to record things, and it's hard to tell on the spot what is worth recording.

While it is usually difficult to get her into a conversation, beware asking her any question involving 'how' or 'why'. If she knows, it is likely to be a three hour lecture on the topic. All of it will be relevant, but she will answer the question completely and thoroughly. Fortunately it's a habit she's aware of, and unless caught off guard she does take steps to curb it. Unfortunately this makes drawing her into normal conversations rather difficult. She does have a sense of humor, it just tends to be as dry as her books, relying heavily on wordplays and subtle references that aren't always as obvious as she thinks they are. If ever there were a pern-geek, this is she. She is also rather obsessive about attention to detail. Everything regarding her duties must be /just so/ or she gets annoyed, and works late to fix the problem.

Gender/Sexual Preference: Female, heterosexual

History: Eimauslyne was born in one of the Southern Holds, to the Holder, a Titular Lord with no Conclave Seat, and his wife. Her father didn't really seem to mind either the political disdain with which he was held or the fact that ten of his twelve children were girls. Eimauslyn or 'Maus' for short was the youngest and last, and nearly 20 turns separated her from her oldest sibling.

She grew up something of an oddity in her family. The runners didn't interest her except in theory, though she soaked up as much of that as she could. She was a decent rider but showed no interest in working in the hold's best income source. She wasn't boy crazy like most of her older sisters. She did have a mind for politics but not the way her oldest brother, and the Heir of the Hold, did. She was more interested in knowing how it worked and why rather than really doing anything about it.

She grew up bouncing from crafter to crafter, avidly absorbing everything the harper could teach her, though her singing voice, a thin little soprano, really wasn't suited to performance. She was taught all the social graces, and introduced to all the other young holders' sons about her age from the time she was very young. Her father was getting an early start on getting /all/ of his daughters in the public eye! He had a lot to marry off after all!

By the time she was 12 and ready to start picking a path, only five of her older sisters were successfully wed, though one of the others was a racing jockey so their father wasn't much worried about /marrying/ her off... he worried more about her falling and breaking something irreparable far more. It was actually at a gather where her sister was racing that she announced to her father she was going to be a Harper. He wasn't about to question it and gladly sent her off to the hall, though he did promise to bring her back for the Turn's End celebrations, there were some advantages to his position after all!

At Harper Hall she actually showed very little interest in the musical side of things. It was quickly confirmed that she would never be more than passable at any form of performance, though she learned her drum codes quickly and with an admirable accuracy. Where she excelled was her scribing, and her artistry. She could accurately copy anything set before her, written or drawn. They had to explain to the young apprentice that 'accurate copying' did not include attempts to mimic the exact handwriting, especially if her own was neater than the original.

Her ability to accurately draw anything she could see was as good as her memory for detail and her scribing ability, unfortunately, the ability did not extend to composition either in stories or in drawings. She could draw it /exactly/ as she saw it, no more no less. Extrapolation simply was beyond her capabilities that early on. She needed to actually see what needed to be done. It took her several turns of practice to get to the point where she could draw what she was thinking.

As with her childhood, she mostly faded into the background here, occasionally annoying fellow apprentices with longwinded explanations, other times gingerly perusing the Hall's records for anything she was allowed to read or touch. She took to carrying two little 'books' around, at this point little more than scraps of spare hide bound together. In one she kept labeled sketches of people and events she witnessed. In the other she kept notes of conversations she'd had, things to look up later, etc. She managed to get a reputation as someone to avoid if you wanted to keep a secret, for all she never told anyone what was in either book.

She made journeyman after five turns of study. Her father was thrilled to hear it, but otherwise the event passed without much ado beyond the day it happened. Shortly thereafter she announced her intention to cross craft with the paper craft, to work with a craft that dovetailed so nicely with her own specialties. She learned more about book binding than the harpers had been able to teach her and only took another four turns for her to make rank in both crafts. Her journeyman project was a rather stunning illustrated version of several of the historical teaching ballads, very simply bound with a leather cover. (She had coordinated with the tanners to learn /that/ aspect of the trade, though she never formally apprenticed there.)

Once she made journeyman she was sent to Southern Boll to be their archivist and their paper crafter. Unfortunately when she got there she discovered the only /help/ she would have was two apprentices for each craft. It took her several turns to actually make that situation work, and by the time it was stable they transferred in two other journeymen, one of whom had seniority over her. This did not go over very well, and Maus politely wrote to the Masters in BOTH of her crafts and requested a transfer somewhere she could be both useful, and at least marginally respected. As this came shortly after the expulsion of one of Mountain Song Weyr's papercraft journeymen from the craft, the Paper Craft was more than amenable when Master Harper Bertram suggested she be sent down there, specifically to work as a go between, between the harpers and the paper craft, helping out both sides as much as she could, which, with her specialties, was likely to be a significant amount. So she received orders and early in the eleventh month of the 4676th turn she arrived at Mountain Song.
