Rider D'star on Bronze Saanpath

Player Name: Katt

Persona's Name: D'star (Delenstar)
Age: 36, 08.19
Rank: Wingrider, former Weyrleader of Telgar

Description: D'star stands about an earthen 6'1''. He's got a lanky build to him for the most part. Long lean muscles everywhere except his thighs, proof he's a dragon rider, and his shoulders from taking his turns as firestone tossers. He's got blue hazel eyes and dishwater blonde hair that's now riddled with scars the width of leather working needles. He still keeps it crew cut for riding purposes even though the number of scars is more than noticeable with that short of hair. Most of his right side is patterned with the thin scars that break up his hair. He's normally in casual wear, black riding leathers for pants and a open collared white shirt with leather strips to pull the collar closed on winder days. Not one for jewelry but as any good rider would, he's got his most trusted belt knife on him at all times.

Personality: D'star appears as the strong silent type to the general public. To those who know him well they know otherwise. His soul is that of a lighthearted person forced to bear to much weight. He doesn't take people for their words anymore. To much stress and to many disappointments along with his own harper training have lead him to rely on actions speaking louder than words. The need to keep himself distant from other people has helped him keep control of the leadership roles he's been in and keep his own sanity. He was really good for Telgar in his time as Weyrleader. Despite how much he wanted to break inside, he knew how to hold the strong leadership role that everyone craves when the world falls apart around them. Some where in all of this has caused him to become a records room recluse. He'll spend hours organizing records and searching for new wing patterns to test out on Thread. Only a good bowl of stew can sometimes take him away from his studies. Those people he has truly let into a part of his life, they know him as a dedicated over achiever. He'll over do the little things for those friends and family he's still in touch with. They mean the world to him as long as they haven't given him any reason to see them like he sees the rest of the world... full of lies. The one track dedication he puts into the things he cares about most have gotten him great achievements and many heart aches.

Gender/preference: Male, Heterosexual

History: D'star grew up in Fort Hold. He was the only biological son to the current Steward, who was keeping the hold proper till the babe a few turns older than D'star would be inducted into his birth right as Lord Holder. D'star grew with the boy. Both were taught the ins and outs of running a Hold. But D'star knew there was something more the other lad was going to get than himself. Taking to being lighthearted on the outside made everyone think D'star wasn't jealous of the Lord Holder to be. But truth be told he was. At a meager eight turns old, D'star took to spying on his father to learn more of the workings of the Hold. To someday prove he was better suited for the job than that of the blood line. He learned things he shouldn't have. Things that shown his father in a different light. Frightened the boy turned to the Harper, who too was covertly learning of the Steward's misguided doing. The Harper instantly recognized D'star for the intuitiveness the boy showed. Such a young fragile age and he was able to put together things that should be. Immediately D'star was send down the road way and instilled into the Harper Hall. His father only saw it as a good thing, he knew D'star would grow jealous of the Lord Holder in time and the Harper Hall gave him something else to occupied his time.

Normally a child of such young age was never taken into apprenticeship. But when the evidence of his father's corruption came into light, the Master Harper had no trouble assigning D'star to one of his unofficial Masters. D'star travelled all of Pern learning to look at people for what they are not showing to the rest of the world. He learned the basics of Harpering enough to cover up why he was really journeying around Pern for. His distrust for words grew even more when he had to pull his own training Master from ranks by orders of the Master Harper. He didn't take to well to the fact that corruption happens to people on so many levels.

D'star was capable of following his training on his own when he had to delve into his Training Master's life. IT was probably in fact his last test to be sure he was what the harper hall needed in covert harpers. This all happened when D'star was but 16 turns of age. He still wasn't a full grown man and showed it. So was transferred to the Southern Continent to work with one of the roving Masters there till he physically appeared to the outside world as a man. Two more turns would pass before anything of interest happened to him.

An unusual and vaguely unexplained death happened in Southern Weyr needing investigation. Transfer papers were forged from Telgar Weyr of a candidate seeking new refuge from family problems up North were presented to Southern's Candidate Master. D'star was only there to investigate. He'd never been search and had ridden enough dragon that someone should have caught him before then. But not long after his 19th birthing day, the current clutch on the sands hatched and a forgetfully bronze stammered up to D'star claiming he was 'Hungry'. Later Saanpath remembered he was supposed to tell D'star his name.

Weyrling Training was relatively uneventful. The unexpected happened some time after graduation. D'star did as he was told. Saan grumbled most of the time but didn't react to it. Neither wanted to be placed in positions of charge but they happened. D'star was thinking he was well off though. If what he showed the world was what they wanted enough to put him in the tops of wings, then all was as it should be. Till one little girl saw right through it all.

It was a love he didn't expect. Nor could have guessed could exist in his world. But she somehow snuck it into his life. Helped him to realize that he wasn't what he was showing everyone. He could grow and be himself. About which time Saan finally snapped under pressure and they were both demoted back to wing rank.

Now carefree, things would have been wonderful except for the sudden surprise of his love impressing a Gold. He had to bit his lip and court her a lot more slowly than he would have otherwise. But this was even more important that he'd realize. The weight of knowing things that others didn't see, of being the only to know the truth behind some world known scandals, the pressure of riding a bronze melted away as Saan settled down into a courtship of the Gold impressed to D'star's love. Both became the lighthearted, devoted persons they were born to be.

A freak avalanche that first winter together trapped them for hours in an empty weyr. He finally got to show her the physical sides to loving a person. And three months later learned of her pregnancy, the wrong way. A nasty fight and he spent most of the pregnancy secluded on night watches at a distant Hold. Eventually a make up came. He was there for the birth which tore him apart. By that time his resolve had come to him wanting to be a father. He wanted to teach someone to not have to be like he ended up being. Wanted a child who could look at the world for what it is and not what it was hiding. But that was not to be. The boy was born a stillborn.

Crushed, D'star didn't reject the sudden orders that came down for his transfer North. His relationship with his love still wasn't perfect as a result. They tried to keep in touch, but time changes things and eventually she only existed in the back of his mind as a good thing lost to him.

Many things changed in D'star at Telgar. With nothing to occupy him elsewhere, he dived into his work and duties head on. He proved a very capable wing leader and innovation in his wing patterns got him and Saan quickly into the Weyrleader's Second position. Much to little surprise, Saan caught the open junior queen flight when the Senior Queen failed to rise two turns running. There were people close to both of them. D'star has always held the Senior Weyr woman in high regard though doesn't look to her as a lover. He's used his lack of trust in things and people to keep on his toes in his leadership. Many changes came around and as a direct result, almost half the Weyr's Fall injuries were cut away. Till the strange falls started falling over Telgar and High Reaches late into his fourth turn as Weyrleader.

It was first presumed miscalculations of the time tables. Then a shift the the turnly patterns. D'star took to secluding himself in his all his time in the Record rooms. New wing patterns again when the death tolls started to rise again. One fall showed the obvious change in thread all to well.
The typical weight of Thread had apparently changed this fall. Many dragons were miss interperating the fall time of thread and searing far to short of the mass they were after. Many riders were caught by the missed Threads. D'star ended up one of them near the end of fall. The stress of the new patterns and the sudden shortage of riders was wearing thin on all left in the flight. Saan made a critical miscalculation of a feathery clump which smacked into D'star right side. The Thread strands themselves were only the width of leathering needles. Lacing patterns across D'star head, shoulder, thigh and Saan's right shoulder. The only bled the few moments in between but the acidity of this clump's skin eat deep into both rider and dragon leaving permanent scars.

The blow of his first scoring and the tremendous death toll put D'star back onto another hole where he fought the world out of. He was on the council that decided and created the new Weyr, he voted for who was going down to head up the building of it. He knew she deserved it. Especially by her records. He just never imagined when Saan failed to catch the Senior Queen that winter that the council would drop order on him to go down himself and over see the implements of some of his own wing patterns into the fighting wings of Mountain Song before Thread officially fell in their territory.

The first few sevendays were rocky in Mountain Song. D'star didn't know where he sat in the scheme of things seeing as he only thought he'd be at Mountain long enough to implament the new wing patterns then be sent back to Telgar.

A few of the people formally at Southern with him, expressed thier concerns and lack of eagerness at his being back in the Weyrwoman's life. D'star wasn't to thrilled at first either. He thought Aria hated him. How could she not after everything that had happened. The eggs must have been hatching right for D'star finally because he and Aria slowly managed to work things back together much to the surprise of many whom thought Aria was finally singling herself out with another bronze rider. And when the time came that orders came down after the inspection of the wings and the new patterns, D'star was surprised and thankful that he wasn't ordered anywhere. Infact he was given the option to stay since it wasn't vital he return to Telgar. Not to repeat past mistakes, he decided to stay.

Again eggs were hatching right for D'star and Saan. One green flight actually got D'star and his love to formally seal thier love again to each other. A few sevenday later he won a flit egg out of an old friend's raffle for the five his queen laid. It later hatched to a brown he named Pocket.
Things just seem to escalade from there. Much to the surprise of everyone, including him, Aria was able to announce her first pregnancy since the miscarrage well over ten turns ago. Then his wingleader was injured in a flash flood accident, leaving him to take up a leadership spot again. And before he could even hand the wing back over to his wingleader, Saan caught Monaryth in her next mating flight, landing D'star back in the Weyrleader position. An impulsive by from a weyrling landed him another little flit. This green beauty he named Precious because she gave off the aura of being someone's precious, pampered little pet.

But somewhere in the good must come the bad. He's slowly falling into a stress rut. Aria has once already confronted him about his 'to induce sleep' drinking habit. But if the supposidly good things don't stop happening, the stress to maintain them all might make the scared but proud Weyrleader faulter.

Pets:

Pocket, brown flit, age 0
Pocket is a cinnomony colored flit. He's rather self sufficiant but likes to pester his Pet for food just so he can be lazy once in awhile. Pocket used to sleep in D'star's pockets which he quickly outgrow to the point D'star had to fashion an large belt pouch for the flit to ride in since he preffered it to staying on D'star's shoulder, thus came his name.

Precious, green flit, age 0
This little flit was an impulse buy from D'star. The oppritunity presented it to himself and he could resist. She hatched a pretty well mannered little thing. And a bit on the jealous side when Aria is around. But she's normally otherwise the perfect little belle who loves to smoothered with attention and effection. Precious is a soft leave green and is so delicately boned, she lookes alot more frail that a firelizard should.

Crafter: Yes (formerly)
Craft: Harper
Craft Rank: Journeyman
Specialties: typical undercover harper spy

Dragon's Name: Saanpath
Color: Bronze
Age: 16
Description: Saan is much like his rider. Long and lanky the whole length of his body. He's longer than a typical bronze which stretches out his mass to make him more lithe in movement than a normal bronze. His hide coloring is a tarnished green brass color covering his main body and most of his wings. Each of his limbs, wing tips and tail fade from the brassy green to the golden brass color that is bronze in it's metal form. There's an almost lattice pattern of scars covering Saan's right shoulder from the nasty threading that changed D'star's appearance.

Personality: Saan is the lightheartedness that D'star can't be. He loves to be lazy and loaf around listening to gossip for hours on end. He can't stand the formality that comes with rank and is much needed relief to his rider when the world gets tough.

Strengths, Weaknesses: Saan can move in flight more like a blue than most bronzes can due to the snake like proportions he seems to have. He's also got an extraordinarily short short term memory, even for a dragon. Still exhibits the lack of memory by randomly placing emotions as for his name. Though his long term can be considered better than some. Lots of repetitive things stay ingrained in his brain longer than the unusual or uncommon things in life.
