Junior Weyrwoman Chantal on Gold Lyrrath
Player: T'Star
Name: Chantal
Age: 20 (12.01.4656)
Rank: Weyrling, Jr. Weyrwoman
Description: Standing of average height. She is heavily muscled and would be bulky were her torso not disproportionately long for her frame, stretching the bulk out into clean, lean lines. Her figure is moderate, feminine enough that she’ll never be mistaken for boy but no busty beauty either. Her facial features are triangular, tan skin spreading over high cheekbones, and down a strait nose to a pointed chin. Her bow shaped mouth is too small for her face. Dark blue eyes are set in almond shaped sockets. Her hair, pulled back in a severe braid that falls to her knees, is a pure white.
Personality: Chantal is a drifter. She rarely forms emotional ties with anyone or anything. She is serious for her age, partly a function of an overly analytical mind. She has a nasty tendency to pick anything that she notices into small pieces and examine it, mentally, from the inside out. As she tends to do this to /people/ too it makes for a low level of trust, she’s always looking for ulterior motives, most of the time without even realizing she’s doing it. Fortunately, her time at Mountain Song and her relationship with the bronze rider D'enthe is mellowing her to a degree. She is increasingly less abrasive, even though she doesn't realize it.
Gender/Preference: Female, Heterosexual
History: She
was born in a small beast hold Nabol side of the Nabol/Ruatha border. Her family
raised runners and herdbeasts. They had a reputation as being reliable. Everything
at her home was defined by that image. Reliable. Safe. Trustworthy. Dependable.
It didn’t make for a colorful childhood, in spite the mountain scenery.
Chantal was fifth out of seven, and self sufficient from an early age, which
relieved her mother as most of her other siblings were a rambunctious lot. She
had no trouble playing alone or amusing herself, which her mother let her do
as often as not. While she was contentious about her chores she showed little
interest in actually learning the business at the hold. She spent as much time
with the resident weaver growing up or the harper or the smith or the tanner
or the healer... no one craft seemed to draw her.
When she was 12 she was sent to the hold proper to study under their harper.
She never got to the point of official apprentice ship, though her contralto
voice was easily trained into a decent singing tone. For a while she continued
on there as she had at home, turning a hand to which ever crafter needed one
that day. Today in the kitchens, tomorrow with dyes, the next day pounding out
shoes for the runners. She learned to haggle from the traders that always came
through, and saved the marks she earned for all the odd jobs she had turned.
She developed a knack for repairing most things in a manner that made it difficult
to tell it had ever been damaged. Few people wanted to take the time to repair
this stool or that table so it /looked/ nice, and she found that some people
were coming to her for other things as well. She repaired a woman’s beloved
wooden jewelry box that had been damaged by her children. She had found an odd
specialty indeed. It was enough
to earn her, her keep and the odd mark here and there.
Her drifting ways, however, had backfired on her. She gradually became an easy
scapegoat for the rough crowd of the hold. As no one knew her very well she
had few people to stand up for her.
It all came to a head when she was 16. She bought a runner with money she’d
been saving from her odd jobs. The source of the money was questioned. It took
almost two sevendays to convince everyone that; yes, the money had been her
own. And No, no one else was missing any large sums. She left a seven day after
things were cleared up packing what little she owned on IronHeart, the gelding
that cost her so much
trouble.
She drifted mostly southward, recently arriving in Southern Boll, stopping at
minor cot holds, major holds, or trader’s safe houses along the way. She did
whatever she could to earn her stay for the night. IronHeart’s strength aided
a great deal there. Removing stumps and rocks for farmers was a good way of
earning a warm meal and place by the fire.
After a few sevendays there, she managed to book passage on a ship heading south,
and arrange for her work on the ship to pay for both her own passage and Iron
Heart’s. She was a quick study and did reasonably well on the ship though both
she and Ironheart were quite relieved to have solid ground under their feet.
Chantal drifted through the northern ports of Southern contintent continuing
as she had in the Northern continent itself. When she heard about Mountain Song,
her decision to go there was as simple and as random as the rest of her drifting
life. It took her almost two sevendays to get there.
Upon arrival she ran into P’rrin and enquired about work. He seemed amenable
to her offer of odd jobs in exchange for a place to stay and room and board
for herself and Ironheart. Then P’rrin asked her to stand for Monaryth’s clutch.
She agreed with little thought to the potential consequences. The candidate
master had reassured her that when she didn’t impress she would be permitted
to leave if she chose. Lyrrath had
other ideas. The second of a surprising /three/ golds to hatch, she was a compelling
reason for Chantal to stick around. The young drifter only then started to wonder
what she had gotten herself into.
Since impressing, Chantal has struggled with the lack of mobility her new position has required of her. Assigned to aid K'ain in his recovery and transition in the mines, she's had little time for trivial pursuits in recent times, though a long fall from an evening climb landed her with a concussion, some broken ribs, and a lot more free time than she could really enjoy until it was practically over with. Surprisingly she's found herself with just enough time to make two of the one thing she'd always avoided as potential weaknesses and vulnerable spots in her travels: Friends, Apprentice Dragon Healer, more recently Gold Weyrling, Xasia and Bronze Weyrling D'enthe.
Almost inspite of herself, Chantal and D'enthe have fallen in together, and she's found herself actually in LOVE with the man! The Ice Queen actually had to have this pointed out to her, and has come to expect it. She and D'enthe have become lovers, and after six months of the relationship she found herself pregnant. He took the news much better than she did. She became resigned to the situation, though it cannot be said she ever actually
came to terms with the fact she was pregnant. She recently gave birth to thier first child, a boy.
Pets:
Name: IronHeart
Species: Runner
Age: 5
Description: A tall runner, he is more a working breed than the classic riding
breed. Heavy of build his body starts out an iron gray at his muzzle sweeping
evenly down his neck and to his shoulders, then spotting and fading to a pure
white around his flanks. Mane and tail are both a mix of colors ranging through
the grey spectrum to a few streaks of black here and there. Personality:
IronHeart is a simple beast, solid and reliable. He is not given to fits of
temper or recalcitrance and is calm almost to the point of being placid.
Crafter: No
Dragon Name: Lyrrath
Dragon Color: Gold
Dragon Age: 1
Dragon Description: Deep gold, dark and rich, almost bronze in depth forms the base for her lithe frame.
Splashes of burnished sunshine scatter across her muzzle and down her neck, flowing and thickening over
her wingsails in a stark contrast to the even, shadowy tones of the rest of her body. Her overly long barrel
curves back to compact haunches and a whip like tail dipped in the same molten brilliance as her wings.
Dragon Personality: Lyrrath is a mellow dragon with a languid sort of playfulness. She’s also remarkably
guileless. She doesn’t particularly understand Chantal’s suspicious thinking or cynicism. She
doesn’t see any reason /not/ to answer straight forward questions. She does have a sense of humor and is more
insightful than she looks. For all that she doesn’t understand much in the way of deception and falsehood.
<<Why’s he so nervous about this? It’s like he doesn’t believe what he’s saying.>>
Strength's/Weaknesses: Lyrrath is just on the short side of average, but is proportioned so it doesn’t
make a great deal of visual difference. She is
average, average in agility, stamina, and speed. Her strengths and weaknesses are primarily mental. She is
not geared towards deception, and while she may pick up on the signs that she is being lied to and that
there is something wrong, the concept of lying is, to her, pointless. But her inate honesty does make her
very insightful... and more tolerant than the average.
