Rules

The rules here are simple. They are designed with three purposes in mind: To help the game run smoothly, to prevent conflicts that would detract from enjoyment of the game, and to keep the game plausible within the world Anne McCaffrey has created.

1) NO POLITICS: this game is for fun. If you want a power trip, create your own game and behave as you see fit.  Our characters can play politics all they like, but the players should refrain on this game.

2) NO POWERPLAYS: A power play is you posing actions from a character that is not yours. If you are in doubt ASK. Example: In a fight scene you may throw a punch at someone, but it is up to /them/ to pose it connecting or missing.

3) PLAY NICE: This doesn't mean your characters have to be sweet and fluffy all the time. This simply means you, the player, should be curt ious and polite. If you have a question, ask. If you are in a scene such as a spar, an argument, or even a dance, give a little. If your character is a gardener learning knife training from a guard. Take a few hits from the practice blade. Play accurately to your character's abilities. We expect everyone to do the same.   (Don't make me come up with stats and a die roller to keep everyone playing to their char's abilities.)

4) We will not be playing at Ruatha Hold or Benden Weyr (even should it be fully re-opened in game). You may have a character /from/ there and the Lord of Ruatha may show up when there are conclaves, etc. Out of respect for Anne's works we will not be using these locations for play.

5) There will be no odd color dragons.  Golds impress only females.  Bronzes impress only males.  The other three colors may be impressed by either gender. NO FEMALE BRONZE RIDERS.  NO RIDERS OF FRIEND/RELATIVE/WHATEVER'S DRAGON (BE THEY ALIVE, DEAD, OR COMATOSE).  This rule is in affect because I have seen such characters apped, and wish to circumvent any problems.

6) There will be no cross over characters from Anne McCaffrey's works (any) or from any other work by any other Author.  This is to maintain the /feel/ of Pern.  We're not playing any of her other worlds.

7) No characters from Ms. McCafrey's works will be used other than as a historical reference.  Do not claim to be related to them.  Again this is out of respect for Anne McCaffrey's work.

8) Religion, as usual, is not alowed in it's classic sense, though the reverence of dragon kin (at least in the historical perspective) has somewhat taken over the nitch in thePernese subconcious that would be filled in our world by religion.  They do not 'worship' dragon kind in anything other than the hero worship sense, and even that is ICly fadinging, though will likely re-kindle when Thread begins again.  Superstition, however, is alive and well, especialy in the Sea Craft.   Even the Davey Jones legends have survived in a somewhat different form.

9) War, in the sense we know it, is not known on Pern.  Even small scale invasions are difficult over the mountains.  The most Pern can manage now are roughly what Fax did in the books.  Assassinations and more subtle plots are very much a part of Pernese culture, along with the custom of dueling.  The Pernese are NOT an inherently peaceful lot, though most will rarely, if ever, pick up anything longer than a belt knife.  Due to Thread, however, they have no real concept of war enmasse.  They have simply not developed the tactics and strategies to be proficient on a large scale level and most of them know it.  With Delandri in the picture and thread returning (though they don't know it) they will likely never have the luxury to develop the 'art' of war to any great measure.

10) No lurking. If you do not plan to post please do not join.

11) Keep staff informed. PLEASE. Plots are wonderful things, but staff needs to know what is going on with plots that will affect more than just the characters involved. All on camera dragon flights must be approved in advance to avoid overlapping flights. All clutches of any species must be approved in advance. All other plots depend upon who's affected. When in doubt... ask. (I don't bite! Honest!)  Note: You don't have to get approval if you just want to declare a flight winner and do not ride gold.

12) Please use common sense and listen to staff.  These rules exist only so the game can run smoothly.  Staff is not mean, we do not bite (though our characters might).  If we tell you that something is very unwise for your character to do, we usually have  a reason.  If you do so anyway, you tell us that you don't mind your character bearing the concequences of those actions.  (They can try and get out of it however they see fit, but it may or may not happen.  In Character Actions = In Character Concequences.)  If you have doubts ASK.  I promise we won't hurt you for asking.
