The year 2424
Business as Usual:
It started an ordinary year. Rumors at Honshu buzzed that when Loth, Honshu's youngest Gold took to flight next Honshu would have a new Lady Weyrholder. The older riders were less pleased with this than the younger, for Belli, Loth's rider was as stupid as she was pretty.
The Lord Holders bickered over land. They bickered over trade bargains. They bickered over who Delandri spent the most time harassing (in thier opinion) and who actually deserved it (everyone else) and who didn't (whoever was talking at the time). At Delandri Chantal and B'len argued over how Delandri should actually be run, and rumors circulate as to why Lyrrath hadn't flown.
Things Start to go Wrong (4.11):
At Delandri things finally came to a head between Weyrwoman Chantal and Weyrleader B'len. After an explosive argument over several items where the Weyrwoman was left completely out of the loop, Chantal fired B'len offering to enforce it with sword, and having her Lyrrath broadcast the decission to all at the Weyr. While it did not devolve to sword play, it did devolve to a short exchange of blows, leaving B'len mostly the worse for wear. The decission was met with an uncertain reception, no one was exactly surprised, but some of the older riders were less than pleased, especially with Lyrrath 4 turns old, and still no sign of her first flight.
Well Over Due (6.2):
On the second day of the sixth month, Lyrrath rose! And what a flight it was! Over three full hours in length, the gold seems to be making up for lost time with one spectacular flight. Almost a month after the flight, she's already larger than most golds are when they clutch, whispers and no few bets are being made as to what kind of clutch she's going to lay. Apparently in keeping with tradition, Chantal is permitting the rider of the catching dragon to be Weyrleader. Bets are on as to how long D'enthe will last. Some are highly in his favor, the ones that remember how good friends he and Chantal had been during Weyrlinghood. Others are gleefully waiting for that little glow bubble to pop.
Politics as usual (7th and 8th months):
7.23: In the most devistating raid on Bitra in recorded history, the riders and guards of Delandri managed to arrest all the major players in the illegal games Bitra was covertly (and sometimes not so covertly) famous for. Accusations were made by prisoners unnamed, that the Lord Holder himself had actively condoned the games, and was receiving a portion of the profits. The Lord Holder has vehemently denied these accusations and is countering with accusations of misconduct and unjustified action on the part of Delandri. A conclave would be called.
8.5: In a devestating decission by the Conclave, all suport from Delandri has been withdrawn. They will recieve no more of the funds and supplies they had depended on to do their commissioned duty. They were not; however, shut down, which left some bitter feelings as it meant the Weyr had to continue to do its sworn duty, without any resources but those they could cobble together themselves. Monaco Weyrhold seemed almost too eager to support the measure according to some observers.
8.21: Inspite of the complications of the Conclave's decission, Delandri hosted a gather. The spirits were up for the first time since the Bitran raid, raised even higher by the arival of A'tthos, Weyrholder of Honshu with a full quarter extra tithe! In direct definace of the Conclave. What was discussed between the Weyrleaders was not reported to the gossip chain though they were happy to make up thier own stories.
Unusual Clutches (8.30-9.02):
After so long Delandri has a clutch on the sands. After three days on the sands, Lyrrath completed a clutch the size of which had not been seen over a century and a half: 53 total eggs including an unheard of 2 golds! Several days later Delandri was swamped with a flood of volunteers to stand for the clutch! They actually started having hope to meet the tremendous need for candidates. Not that this pleased the Conclave but most at Delandri didn't much care about that part.
Disaster (9.16):
Thread returned. In a devestating fall over Telgar region thread returned, defying all logic and all prediction. It has returned more than 20 turns before the earliest estimates allowed for. The patterns were crazed, as thread no longer seemed to fall in marching waves of attacks, but instead fell more like rain. 400 dragonriders were lost in the initial fall alone. The casualties to Hold and hall were emense. Two of the Lord's many children and his youngest sister survived... other families were not so fortunate.
Harsh Reality (9.25)
The conclave was called in record time after the second threadfall and two major holds were left with only sparse prospects in deed. The more conservative holders were set back on their heels when first Bitra's only surviving heir Vistria insisted on her rightful place, then Chantal not only insisted on representing Delandri personally but began dictating terms.
Successions were haggled over and the Lords were largely displeased with the results but there was little they could do. The end result was Monaco Bay was no more, the Weyrhold was disolved, though there were people there still, and those who wished could still live there, the damages were too great for a rebuild in the forseeable future. Honshu reverted to "Traditional" inheritence through A'tthos's bloodline. Vistria was confirmed Lady Holder of Bitra with no condition (much as they would have liked to be able to dictate terms.)
The lords again agreed to Tithe... then came the battle over search. In the end they agreed that all traditional search rights would be restored to Delandri, but only after Lyrrath's clutch hatched, most of the Holders were banking that she would not be able to pull off that size clutch again.
Cramped Quarters (10.05)
Much to the all around annoyance and increasing of short tempers on the sands. Jettath clutched, laying an impressive 23 eggs, which brings the egg total up to 75 and two golds sitting on the now very, very cramped hatching sands.
Bumper Crop (10.16)
And they hatched! All fifty three eggs hatched! Though there are some concerns that the smaller of the two golds seemed to act more like a green. Some worry that this will impact her ability to breed, others hope it will simply means she flies early instead of late like her mother! When all was said and done the totals came out to:
2 Golds, 10 bronze, 11 brown, 15 blue, 15 green
Even More Unexpected (10.26)
Pelicath, the most senior of Monaco's golds and only surviving gold rose, much to everyone's shock! At well over fifty it was thought she would never fly again, and indeed she showed her age in that it was a relatively short flight. And to top things off she was caught by a brown! No one is really certain where this is going to end up.
Round two (11.10)
Jettath's clutch arived and while there was no gold, it was a very healthy spread!
0 Gold, 4 Bronze, 4 Brown, 7 Blue, 8 Green
The Rush is On (11.11)
On top of trying to find enough candidates for the sudden increase in clutches (in two hatchings there have been a turns worth of weyrlings! But somewhere in the crowding when Jettath and Lyrrath were both on the sands, a small hole got knocked in one wall. Lo and behold! It led to another cavern with similar properties to the existing hatching caverns. The miners and stone cutter are working frantically to make it useable BEFORE one of the golds clutches again and they get kicked off the sands!
The Price goes Up (11.27)
Thread fall was not only falling out of pattern, but in much larger areas and for much longer times. These conditions were bound to catch up with Delandri. A few low-death falls and then this... The death count ended at 15, with several who may or may not ever fight thread again. Perminant injuries were being transported back to Honshu unless they wanted to stay at Delandri.
Death Toll: 1 bronze, 4 brown, 1 blue, 9 green
