Description: Slightly taller than average, standing perhaps 5'7, this girl might best be described as sultry. Her hair is black until the sun catches it, when warm red highlights can be seen. Deep brown eyes rest beneath arching brows, and her skin is darker than normal, a light brown that might suggest much time spent outside. She wears her hair long, but normally pulled back into a runnertail to keep it out of her eyes, and she dresses practically unless it's for a party or a Gather, when she will really 'femme out' and spend hours making sure she looks her best.

Personality:Yselka is...well...she's complicated. To her friends, she's nice, pleasant, always up for a party, always the one thinking of ways to have fun. To her enemies, she...can morph into a total b word. See, this girl feels, and what she feels, she doesn't see any reason not to show. If she's happy, she's singing (off key), if she's unhappy, she's crying in a corner.

She does have a certain courage, and she will very definitely stick up for people, especially if her sense of justice is triggered. She'll fly at bullies verbally and, if needed, physically, often with results more laughable than effective, although she's determined to learn real self defense one of these days. She melts where babies, human or animal, are concerned or seen, and she has said she'd rather be a nanny...if she doesn't manage to get a dragon. Dragons, she considers to be beautiful creatures, who should be cherished in honor of all the time they protected Pern from the clearly now-gone menace. It's gone. Right?

History:

Most people know who their father is. Sometimes, weyrfolk can't be sure. Yselka does know that her mother is a cook at Delandri, name of Tarilka. And she knows her father is either a brownrider, Y'kor, or maybe a trader named Lorak...both of whom had relations with her mother at close to the right time. She's not sure, and she doesn't really care to be sure.

She's grown up at Delandri, in a world where Thread is gone forever and dragons, although useful for things like transportation, and search and rescue, are vestiges of a lost world. Yet, she also grew up surrounded by them, taking them for granted. Dragons are both part of the background, and something to be honored. Dragons saved Pern, and thus, even if they aren't needed any more, are to be cherished.

She has one older brother, known to be Y'kor's son, and a younger brother, who could either be Y'kor's or that of a bluerider whom her mother 'comforted' after his dragon lost a flight. Yeah, some girls get around, and Yselka has never felt there to be anything wrong with that. Knowing there were very few dragons, she focused on learning to cook, but still planned on asking to stand once she turned twelve.

Except when she turned 12, there was no adult gold at Delandri. She didn't give up on her dream, but she put it on the back burner. And then time passed, and Lyrrath didn't fly...and didn't fly. She wondered if the people who said dragons would eventually die out without Thread were right. Only now are candidates being taken again.

Yselka is fifteen, and a more than competent cook, she knows she can get a job in any kitchen she likes. But at the same time, now there's the chance of a dragon. It's a chance, that the girl is willing to take.
