Description: Sarden is tall and broad-shouldered, his body well-muscled from a life of farm work, with the tan to match. His stringy, sandy-blond hair is cut to ear length, and has a permanently tousled look. His eyes are the solid blue of a beautiful summer’s day. The face they’re in is fairly attractive, but has the beginnings of a rough, weather-beaten look.

Personality: Sarden is a family man to the core; the one-in-a-million guy every girl wants to take home to meet her parents. His connection to his family defines everything he says, does, and is. He thinks of himself foremost as a loyal, hardworking son whose duty is to serve and support his parents, siblings, and children. He adores his children, and wants to give them the world. Sarden is generous and caring to a fault, to some extent viewing the whole of Pern as kindred of sorts. He thinks that everyone should do their best to stand on their own two feet, but that it’s not a shame to need a little help once in a while. Sarden won’t tolerate someone trying to take advantage of his good nature, though, and nature fortunately gave him the body to be intimidating where his spirit usually isn’t, which usually dissuades most people from trying to do so.

Lately, however, Sarden has become more self-contained. Since his wife’s death, his heart just isn’t in it anymore. Staying strong and cheerful for his children takes all of his energy, and he doesn’t have a whole lot left for the rest of the world.

History: Sarden was the second son born of minor cotters in Southern’s territory, and grew up in a loving, supportive family. Sure there was a lot of hard work to keep their fields going, but Sarden liked the comforting routine and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day. He married a girl from a neighboring cot at sixteen, and settled down on some land next to his family. He and Kina put a lot of work into starting up their farm and making it profitable, but they were happy. Kina bore him a son, Dasan, a Turn into their marriage, and a daughter, Kindra, two Turns later. Sarden doted on his children, and he would have been content to be husband, father, and farmer forever.

But it was not to be, and the next Turn Kina died of a sudden fever halfway through her third pregnancy. Sarden was devastated, and it was only for his children, and with the support of his family, that he tried to keep going on as normal. But their farm held too many memories for him. When news of Delanri's new clutch hit the cothold, homebody Sarden surprised everyone by announcing his intention to volunteer for candidacy. He turned the farm over to his younger brother and took his children with him to the Weyr, unwilling to be parted from them too.
