10.16.2424 - Lyrrath and Cauldrenth
Eggs 2-3
A beautiful deep green and a playful bright blue eagerly searched the tons of candidates. So many choices! It seemed to take them forever as they went through 'every' one of the candidates one at a time, starting at opposite sides of the group. Eventually, they both chose girls from somewhere in the middle.
Egg 5-6
The bronze was big, strong, and a nearly 'perfect' bronze color. He also didn't seem to want to come out of his shell. He peeked out timidly, then ducked his head back in, trying -and failing- to stuff himself back into his shell. So many people, and so loud! He had very good hearing..and the noises were bothersome. So was the large crowd of people. He didn't think he liked crowds. Eventually though, the shell gave way to the rest of him, and he set out in search of someone. He hesitated several times. Which one? It was several minutes before he called out, and the right boy stepped 'out' from the rest of the candidates to join him.
The blue that hatched next was determined to find His faster than any of the others, so of course the small slender, quicksilver pale blue streaked out of the cluster of eggs, only to trip over one causing IT to hatch, not realizing he'd already passed another that already had. He had to find His! In his rush he got himself tangled up again and cried out piteously. This just was NOT his day! The boys that helped him right himself all looked hopeful, but the blue didn't want any of them, which rather frustrated him. Where WAS His? One of the boys around the bronze cried out with joy and triumph.
He turned to the boy. A boy, brash, adventurous… But no that didn't work either. He dashed all the way to the other end of the line and sniffed at several of the girls. Maybe the stands? He didn't realize three of his siblings had already chosen theirs while he had been dashing about. One dark haired girl watched it all with amusement, "Come here Chaoth. If you'd stop tearing about like that you'd /find/ me rather than just babbling at me." Kalarma, or K'arma as she would become known, rebuked gently.
**Due to a typo the origional did not contain "One of the boys around the bronze cried out with joy and triumph."
Eggs 8-9
The egg run over by Chaoth turned out to be a brown, who growled at the temerity of the blue. He found his own lifemate without fuss and bother, a lean boy, who had been congratulating his best friend about his impression of the green who had hatched practically on /top/ of the other boy. Both pairs left the sands rather stunned.
Eggs 10-12
A cluster of three eggs cracked at once: A pale, delicate green, A blazing portly blue, and a bronze who's hide looked like he was wearing a brightly polished cape on side wise and was even ganglier than his father. As all three hatched practically on top of one another (in a rather literal manner.) It took a moment for them to extricate themselves from the mass of shell and dragon.
The green made a beeline for one "girl" bugling her outrage as the rumpled blue who had hatched AFTER her, had taken her first choice. The rolly-polly blue that had hatched with her sniffed at the fuss and wandered up to a sandy haired boy. The bronze had staggered over to a scrawny scarecrow of a lad and was rather surprised to find the boy amenable. After a moment's huff the green tromped up to the stands, carefully avoiding Jettath and her clutch, she was possessive she wasn't stupid. She called down a willowy girl who was squashed between her parents. No this green didn't CARE that she was the only living child of a holder, with a marriage already arranged!
Eggs 14-16
Two blues hatched almost simultaneously, which was somewhat problematic as they were also almost identical. Both were a base pale powdery blue, with a rich sapphire piebald pattern. But rather than truly identical they were mirror images of one another. For a moment they both seemed to be considering a pair of identical twin boys, then one wheeled and chose the girl behind him, while the other chose the older of the two twins. Meanwhile the bronze that had hatched just after them picked the other twin, and a muscular dark green picked a very young crafter girl just behind them, after a few snaps. She wanted to be sure no one was going after HERs... The others mostly ignored her.
Eggs 19-21
A sapphire-shiny blue came out of his egg with something resembling decorum. After all, it wouldn't do to soil his hide! He seemed disgusted by the egg-remains on it. He chose a very well-kept looking boy and insisted upon a bath immediately! Only begrudgingly did he agree to eat 'all' of his meal first.
A darkly-tarnished bronze, not too dissimilar from Cauldrenth in color, but much more muscular in build at hatching, bounded eagerly out of his egg and nearly bowled over the first boy he ran into...a very young, short, skinny boy. He was eager to eat, and get bathed, and sleep. It all sounded like a good time to him!
A ruddy colored brown with ash-brown streaky mottling along his underbelly and wrapping around the end of his tail took forever getting out of his shell. That had been because he'd been trying to chip his way out from the 'bottom.' Eventually he'd figured but his mistake, and managed to spill out the side. He stumbled several times, and tripped over his own tail at least once before choosing his boy.
Eggs 22-24
Two eggs knock against each other and crack, revealing identical greens who stare at each other as they shake off their shards, then, mirror images, look around at the candidates, before making their way, side by side, over to a pair of twin girls who are clinging to one another in hatching sands nerves that vanish rapidly as their dragons make their choices.
Meanwhile, a brilliant bronze, strutting across the sands, assessing various boys as he passes them, ignoring the girls with pointed arrogance, and finally settling down at the feet of a dark haired and dark-skinned boy, a runner, who looks utterly startled even as he
reaches for the dragon's eyeridges. "Me? But I'm not worthy, Malith."
Eggs 27-29
Almost together, a brown and a blue erupted from their eggs. The blue was relatively large, the brown rather small, so the two were 'nearly' the same size. They both bumbled onto the sands, and looked over the boys. They both stopped in front of the same one, and glared at each other. And kept glaring. The contest lasted a whole minute before the
brown averted his eyes and gave up, bounding over to another boy nearby, a short, wiry fellow. The blue took the tall, skinny one in front of him.
A solidly built, well-burnished bronze broke from his egg, and practically strutted as he made his way across the sands, looking for the right boy. One with the right combination of courage, strength, and looks! Just like him! He rather quickly chose a tall, muscular boy with blond hair.
Eggs 31-33
A green and a blue hatched at almost the same time, choosing a pair of sisters nearly as different as night and day: the one the blue picked was tall, and lithe, with dark brown hair, the one for the green of average height, dark blonde, and slightly plump.
One very long brown was so eager to get to his, that he reached up into the stands and barely managed to grab the boy's shirt in his mouth as the young man leaned over the rail eagerly to get a better view, accidentally sending him tumbling down on top of the young dragon in a sticky, sandy heap. Fortunately for the embarrassed dragon, the boy was laughing as he stood.
Eggs 34-36
Bronze and blue hatch together, exploding from shards that mingle, colors on the sands. They make their choices swiftly, bronze circling around the remaining candidates to select a red-haired smith, blue cutting across the center to claim a girl with curly hair and feline-green eyes. A green falls into the path of the bronze from her egg, a sort of squeak coming from her as she realizes she's about to be run down. She darts to the side, tripping over a slender boy with brown hair, although her creels become joyful as their eyes meet in the process of disentangling themselves.
Eggs 39-40
A blue and a brown made for the stands without hesitation. And a couple in the back were jarred out of their /very/ pleasant distraction with one another. The younger children of two holders and been kissing since the hatching started, their parents completely oblivious to the goings on, concentrating on one of their older siblings on the sands. It took a while to sort out who had gotten which and what exactly had happened, but the girl and her blue and the boy and his brown were eventually sent off to the Weyrlingmaster, still a little dazed.
Eggs 41-43
It's still utter chaos on the Sands, with a clutch this size, yet it starts to seem as if the majority have, indeed, found their lifemates. A green the color of brilliant jade would be the focus now, for she cast her eyes across the Sands, then hrmphed, making her way across them, and then looking pitifully, pleadingly up into the galleries, hooking her little claws up into the wall. Escaping from her father's side, the young daughter of a cotholder suddenly vaulted over her seat, down towards the green, to meet her eyes.
Thus, two more eggs hatching might go almost unnoticed. A brown, and a blue...the brown making his choice swiftly, a quick route across the Sands to a sandy-haired lad from Honshu, the blue equally swift, a girl who's freckles merged all together, and who normally worked in Delandri's stables.
Eggs 45-48
The sands were starting to empty as a regal green in a rich emerald hatched. She postured for a moment then glided across the sands. Her hide was `softer' than her wings, like a silk cloak over the velvet of her hide. She sniffed disdainfully at the boys, and spurned the girls. None of them were good enough for her.
Three other eggs hatched in unison, and a rather dashing trio, bronze, brown, and blue sauntered out looking for Theirs, almost together. Then they saw the green trying to slink off the sands. The blue started it, chasing her back towards the candidates. Oh, no they weren't going to have a run away. She ran, they persued, and the whole mess tumbled into a cluster of evenly mixed boys and girls. The green came up with a young pretty (quite literally) young man with shoulder length dark hair and a slightly lost look. The bronze and blue each claimed two boys who'd been pulling people out of the way from getting trampled, and the brown surprised everyone by choosing a female guard who was trying to keep the commotion from getting out of hand.
Eggs 51-53
The small, mottled egg chipped, and a wet-shimmering bright emerald green nostril peeked out. For several minutes she struggled, with little effect, to hatch. For another several long minutes she didn't move, though the nostrils flared, making it clear she was still alive. It was only with a mighty effort that she manged to make a big enough crack that the egg split open, and the exhausted little green fell out onto the sands. She was shivering, tired, and leaner than she should be, but that didn't seem to matter to the skinny fourteen-turn-old boy who darted out to her as she cried out, clearly 'called' as she had found the one she wanted. He crouched at her side, stroking her encouragingly while she rested. They were one of the last to leave the sands, but they left them together.
A long, lithe bronze took far more time than might have been necessary being picky about which one he wanted, finally choosing a boy who had stood there, very patiently, waiting for the bronze to make a decision.
An eager, bouncy blue matched up, almost at once, with a girl of average size and similar temperment.
11.10.2424: Jettath's and an unnamed Telgar Bronze
Eggs 3-5
As the egg parted, the blue dragon within rushed out as fast as possible. So quickly, in fact, he's still wearing part of his egg, rather like a hat! Wings held high so he doesn't trip over them, he zipped from candidate to candidate, finally settling on one of Delandri's own...a boy barely old enough to be Standing.
Making each step with care, head held high, a delicate green scanned the candidates, then went to the end of the line to choose a homely young woman from Ista, who squealed in utter surprise and delight.
A rather chubby green rolled out of her egg, literally, ending up on her back. She made all kinds of creeling noises, unable to right herself easily, until a boy from Delandri itself found himself drawn over to help her, Impression was made as he assisted her back to her feet.
Eggs 8-10
Another blue languidly tossed aside the shards of his egg, then stopped to inspect these wonders, before taking his time to inspect the candidates. He seemed to take an inordinate amount of time, and then padded right to the back of the circle, to a shy girl from Keroon.
Popping out of an egg, a blue struck a pose, spreading both of his wings to their fullest extent and then remaining there. For a while, it seemed as if he's expecting the candidates to come to him, and then he seemed to almost randomly pick the closest, an older boy from Telgar Outpost.
A skinny blue nobody quite saw hatch emerged from behind a couple of un-hatched eggs. He promptly avoided the available candidates, and instead made his way over to the stands...and, equally promptly, staked his claim on a harper apprentice who had planned on making a song about the Hatching his journeyman project.
Eggs 13-15
Quite possibly the smallest green in the entire clutch shook off the shards of her shell, and made her way to choose a short boy from Ista...a well matched pair in size, if nothing else.
A slender green with unusually long wings had a particularly hard time getting out of her egg. She flops exhausted for a while, then picks herself up to walk straight to a former beastcrafter apprentice, the boy looking not at all surprised, for some reason.
A green of a very pale, almost lime shade, rushed out of her egg, tripped over her own wings and fell. She picked herself up and continued her headlong rush, bowling over a girl from Telgar and then quite gently pinning her down until the surprised young woman squeaked
out a name.
Eggs 18-19
Another egg cracked violently, sending its shards flying in all directions to reveal a largish, light brown hatchling. He shook his head as if to clear it, and then made his way directly, knocking egg shells and sand out of his way, towards a petite girl from Tillek Hold. (Adopted)
A blue so dark as to almost look black at first sight charged a group of candidates, stopping at the last minute to repeat it with another, as if to see who will squeal the loudest. He then returned to the first group and chose one of Delandri's kitchen workers from the group of candidates, wrapping his tail possessively around her ankle.
Eggs 22-23
Awkwardly, stepping over shards, a damp green stops at the feet of an exceptionally attractive young woman, causing a few smiles from some of the male riders. The young lady drops to one knee to scritch the nearest eye ridge lovingly.
Sniffing with disdain at all, a green shook off her shards...and then kicked them neatly into a pile. That task done, she looked assessingly at the candidates. No. No. That one will never do. Finally, she made her choice, a boy from Nerat notorious for his snappy dressing.
